Calling for creative people

A classic moment to end 2009!

This morning we had a Press Conference with YB Datuk Seri Utama Dr Rais Yatim -announcing our new offering to the public ; Creative Industry Fund (CIF). Frankly, the PC was the longest PC (duration) I've ever attended since I joined the organization. But it was a session with full of information, precise and detailed. Since the offering is still new, the media did post some critical questions such as the interest rate, processing TAT and eligibility. Replies were solely answered by the Minister. I l kinda like the way he answered - straight to the point and precise - giving no room for the press to question further. A set of skill and knowledge that perhaps may be acquired from experience and an art of language.

Frankly this is something different for the Bank... but a fresh good start though for 2010.
As for the industry ... an opportunity to be grabbed to enrich the local content. Hopefully the Indon movies or drama will be reduced in order to give ways to our local creative people to expose their expertise and produce more home grown products!

God is Great.

Sometimes, you have to act 'cool' even though there's a 'tsunami' inside you...
Sometimes you have to act 'brave' even though you know that you are the most 'coward' person among your friends... dengar cerita pasal hantu jer (belum tengok lagi) dah kecut..
But that's life...
There was a tsunami inside me yesterday... I had to cool myself down, silently...
How? Makan bubur kat Kak Mah Tomyam!
This is not new actually... This is what I have been facing... trying to control...
Sometimes I managed to control.. Sometimes I did not.

I didn't expect the tsunami to continue... but yes it continues till this morning...
God is Great. This is one of the tests..

'Amazing' - How did they do it?

I am sure you guys read this....
There's a saying 'When there's a WILL, there's always a WAY'.
Unfortunately, the will and the way are now being questioned.
But how did they do it?
A question of integrity?
I don't have the answer... Do you??

Do you know your family roots?

Last weekend I had the opportunity to spend a night at my late grandfather's old house, located at Limbungan, Melaka. Its not that 'old' actually since the old house has an extension to a new modern look house. A small yet cozy enough for my late grandmother, spending her entire life until she passed away 3 years back.

That nite, my father showed us a book that dictates all the happenings in our family since 1824. I am sure some of you guys have heard of 'Hijrat Keluarga'. It was first written in Jawi. I had a bit of a hard time to read it out loud at first until my father took over. Words were written denoting happenings within the family especially occasions like marriage, birth and death.

The 'book' - Buku Hijrat Beranak, Kematian, Perkahwinan dan lain-lain.

This Hijrat was written on the happenings in 1824 ... It was said the whole Singapore was in fire in 1824... My great great grandfather was just about to crawl when this happened...

This patch was written on my birth....
"12 Rabiulakhir 1387 Hijrah, bersamaan 20 Julai 1967, jam 11.15 pagi, cunda Hamidah Mohd Noah (my mum) telah selamat melahirkan seorang anak perempuan di rumah Jalan Maxwell Kuala Lumpur. Kanak2 itu telah diberi nama Arida Ariffin. Moga2 Allah panjangkan umurnya dan murahkan rezekinya yang Halal."

- Abdul Manan bin Abdul Latif, 30 - 7- 67.

My birth was relatively recorded in that book. So do my other siblings'!

That nite we finally talked about our great grand fathers and our roots. That book clearly stated that my family was originated from Singapore. According to my father, some patches of the stories narrated to him attested that we were connected to Munsyi Abdullah. Unfortunately I must say that there was no written evidence to substantiate this...

I found this about Munsyi Abdullah on the net ....

Munshi Abdullah a.k.a Abdullah bin Abdul Kadir (b. 1797, Kampong Pali, Malacca - d. October 1854, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia), son of Sheikh Abdul Kadir d. 1820 Malacca). With a very strict Muslim upbringing and scholarly education, Abdullah's abilities made him a language teacher and interpreter proficient in Arabic, Tamil, Hindustani, English and Malay.

Sometime after June 1819, Abdullah came to Singapore to make a living as an interpreter. He taught Malay to Indian soldiers, British and American missionaries, and on occasion, was private secretary to Raffles.

Abdullah was the first Malay writer to depart from the traditional Malay literary style by writing in the colloquial language. Unlike courtly writing, it was realistic and lively, incorporating many Malay idioms and proverbs.

Despite Abdullah's obscurities, misrepresentations of fact and occasional solecisms in his books on his literary and pilgrimage to Mecca, Munshi Abdullah became the first local Malay to have his works published, and thus has gained the title of being the "Father of modern Malay Literature", his writings remain an inspiration for modern Malay literature. His diary was brought back by a friend after Abdullah died, and so his last journey was published posthumously. Munshi Abdullah Avenue is named after him.

Actually, whether or not we are related to Munsyi Abdullah is not an issue...
I am proud to have found that book.. at least I know who my ancestors were.
We plan to continue the Hijrat..
Thanks to my late grandfather Abdul Manan Abdul Latif for the effort to document everything in writing... He passed away in early 80s.. and just like Munsyi Abdullah he was not burried here in Malaysia... but in Mecca, instead!

Ladies in action!

I've played bowling before but just for fun. Last week, at first I thought I would 'missed' joining the gals (Puspanita of coz) bowling after the DR exercise. Then gotto know the game was held in the evening at 2.30 pm. I rushed to Alamanda Bowling Alley... with Amir.

The other agencies (under MOF - AG, Treasury, BNM, BSN, JPPH, Hasil, EPF and Customs) were already there. There were 3 categories - the VIP's (all the Datins), the Committees's (each agency sent a rep) and team (all agency sent one team).

Datin Linda was a good player. I noticed that she has her own gear - the shoes and the ball too. Lat was our rep in the Committee category. If it wasnt because of the DR, I must have volunteered myself to play... The team (As,Mashitah and 2 other gals ... I couldn't remember their names but they played well - gals, give a big round of applause to yourself!!).

The game commenced around 3.00 pm and they had 3 rounds of game. I went to watch Datin, Lat and the team performed and threw the balls. As they 'strike' ''' Neney and I yelled out and cheered them!

The game ended at 6.30 pm and am proud to say that Datin Linda was announced the 2nd place (you go Datin!!), while Datin Yang (from BNM) was announced the player with the most balls went to the drain :). It was fun though. Our team didnt win any of the top rank place. But they did play with a good team spirit.
What can I say? Thanks gals... for spending your time to be part of the game.

I found this on the net .... Bowling is an anaerobic type of physical exercise, similar to walking with free weights. Bowling helps in burning calories and works muscle groups not usually exercised. The flexing and stretching in bowling works tendons, joints, ligaments, and muscles in the arms and promotes weight loss. Apart from the physical benefits it also has psycho-social benefits, strengthening friendships or creating new ones in groups.

Must do this more often!

Some pics during the game.

Eating time while waiting for the result...

Datin Linda and Puan Sri Hayati (Pengerusi Puspanita MOF).

Mission Accomplished!

Hubby and I have been trying to persuade our one and only lil' precious Amir to have a hair cut. Weird right? Today, we decided by hook or by crook he must have his hair cut!

We went to Manisha's...at Saujana Prima. Luckily there was no customer at all. Hubby grab and held him tight. I had to hold his hands while the 'baiya' (barber la!) cut his hair. It was a 'horrifying' 15 minutes ... as Amir was actually moving his head up and down left and right... He yelled and cried. All sorts of excuses came from his mouth.. "sakit, tangan Amir sakit, telinga Amir ada darah, mak tolong Amir and many more... :)" I tried to 'calm' him down
but to no avail.

Finally, this is the result.
We personally think that he is cuter with the new hair style. Tidy and neater...
To compare before and after the hair cut....
The hair cut cost merely RM6.00 but I think the 'baiya' had a very hard time to control the customer... Maybe Amir was his first experience...
To the 'baiya' thanks anyway! and see you again in 6 months time :)

These pics were taken on 12 Dec at Alamanda. He was playing some dinasour game..
Look at his hair... He looked 'messy'... and 'old'??

This is the new hair style. I think he looks cute ...

... and you call this a DISASTER

It was 11.40 pm when I received a call from MJ, my Boss. It was a call to be at the Learning Centre. A gentle reminder from MJ - to attend the midnight meeting at 12.00 am for the CMT to declare the disaster and proceed with BCP.

I could barely opened my eyes. Made a point to sms Eddy. My message was simple - CAll Tree activated. This is a simulaton. Less than minutes after that I received another message. It was MJ - requesting me to inform Jay. Obviously Jay is not picking up his phone.

Finally, I got up at 3.00 am and smsed Jay as well as Kama to be at Bangi at 4.00 am. We met at the Guard House and proceed to PKB. Saw Mr Goh and handed over the Notices to Stakeholders. It was 'cheating' actually. I got to know the scenario of the simulation and prepared before hand. Well, at least this could save me time to print at PKB. It takes me less than 10 minutes to draft the notices but it was a long queue if you were to print. I guess the CMT should take into consideration the fact that printer is also considered as a main requirement during this exercise.

It was 5.30 am when the CMT had a second meeting. I joined the meeting .. and what a relief the systems were successfully restored at PKB and they need another half an hour to fall back the system at the HQ and the main state branches.

At this point, KAma was already fallen asleep. I understood that he was from SabakBernam and reached KL around 11.00 pm. It was lucky me when Pn Azian suddenly instructed us to disperse. It was then merely a technical conversion. Overall the simulation was a success.

I went back home at 6.10 am after smsing MJ that Pn Azian had endorsed the completion of the simulation exercise. Arriving home, I saw Amir running towards the door... He must be looking for me..
I continued my sleep....

Believe it or not at 1.00 pm plus the next morning, I got a call from En Rahmat- the last person on the Call Tree list... He is supposed to report to the Learning Centre @ Alternate Site that he got the message. ... (unfortunately he said that he lost the number !!!) But that was after 13 hours the Call Tree was activated! If this were to be a real Disaster... En Rahmat, you are fired!

A point to ponder?

Recently I had the opportunity to attend quite a number of trainings. I treasure trainings a lot! Its an opportunity not to be missed to empower yourself to be more efficient in whatever field that you involved or messed in!

Last month I was at Social Media Boot Camp. Looking at the name of the training I wonder what was it all about. Spent a bit of my hectic schedule to find out on the same. It was actually on the new media that has been going round for quite some time. Why I said it was quite some time because I knew about this new media which is now known as Social Media last 2 years, when I was with CAT@ VirtualMalaysia.Com. The whole thing is actually on Internet Marketing.

It was more of a refresher course to me. The SEO, the pay per click, keyword etc ... Thanks to my ex-CEO (I better named him :) En Rohizam Md Yusoff (I still remember the spelling of his name! Some ppl spelt his name wrongly!) for giving me the golden opportunity to enhance my knowledge in IT. However, the knowledge is not pretty practicable in this organization. I believe skepticle is still the major reason that hinder some ppl to get 'associated' with Internet Marketing. Maybe its the industry that I involved in today is a bit different from before.

Holistic .... that would be my impression towards Internet Marketing @ Social Media. I believe if the organization plans to run a campaign via this medium, it would be successfully measured. However, without having an expert to run this, it would be quite hassle and tedious. All you need is to have ppl who likes to surf, creative and with analytical mind. Besides, budget would be one of the contributing factor to get it done with 'flying colors'.

I personally think if the current organization plans to run a campaign on branding, this would be the possible medium....

So, you think you are so good?

Malaysia is one of the most sought after travel destinations ... how far is it true?

I always thought vacation within Malaysia is an advantage. Not until we experienced it ourselves...

Bukit Merah Laketown Resort (BMLR) has been chosen as the family's annual vacation. The kids were excited looking forward for the water and theme park of coz. But not the parents actually.... My nieces and nephews are 'crazy' when it comes to water. We, parents always have a very tough time to persuade them to come out from the pool.

So we decided to have 'an educational vacation' for them this time round. We reached Suria Aptm, BMLR around 2.00 pm. It was a 'ritual' for the kids to first deep themselves in the pool. The pool was convenient. I took Amir to the 'adult' pool as the cousins were there and did not want him to miss all the fun.

That night, after maghrib, we traveled from BMLR heading to Taiping Night Safari. Car park was charged at RM2.00. For 9 adults and 6 kids, we had to pay around RM200 for the entry tickets. Surprisingly, the visitors (most of them are locals; noticed from the faces and language conversed). There were nearly 300 ppl when we arrived. We waited about an hour... nothing happened. We the got to know that they provide 6 trams and each tram can merely occupy 24 pax. But since we have been in the queue, we had to follow the flow and We wait for another 1 1/2 hour to be in the tram.

And can you just imagine, after a long 'sweet' waiting in the queue (about to board the tram)... a group of people from the entrance walked to 'our tram' ... looks like they were in the midst of hijacking our tram! My brother then gave a big 'shout' - barely a connotation "hello... we have been waiting like crazy.. what the f*** are you ppl jumping the queue". At this point, ppl along my queue were also yelling and shouting at that group.... Finally, that group was 'advised' by the mgmt ofc to wait for their turn....

We were in the tram for 40 minutes. The tigers, lions, rhinos and many others were 'cageless'... No camera with flash was allowed as this might distract the animals. I think the night safari is a good initiative. It would be good also to have other breeds of animals kept in the zoo. A good tourist point. Perhaps that night was a bit special not only for the kids but also to us .... I would suggest the relevant dept or ministry to upgrade the services especially to provide more trams... During school holidays this kinda place is attacked by the tourists locally and internationally. So as to have convenient kiosks selling food and drinks...
The kids had fun that night despite the 'never ending' waiting...

The next morning, we decided to go to Maxwell Hill. I couldn't remember if I have ever been to Maxwell Hill. Even though we reached early in the morning, we were 'deprived' to be on top of the hill. Reason being, all drivers were on leave and no one was able to drive the Pajero. Is this a norm? The front office at Maxwell Hill greeted us with an expression "Do not disturb, Please find your own way to get on top"....

The relevant Ministry should take this incident seriously. Are the international tourists facing similar experience? While some people is running high and low to ensure that Malaysia is listed as one of the top tourism spots internationally, some ppl perhaps do not 'aware' that they are ruining all the efforts ...

We then took a combo package to Orang Utan Island, Eco Park and Reptile Farm. The Orang Utan Island was actually a rehabilitation centre for orang utans - an initiative of Emkay Land to safeguard these species. We were 'introduced' to Adam, Sonia, Nafsiah and Mike ; the eldest. This is almost like a csr initiative of Emkay... a good deed though!

All in all the vacation was really good. It was the moments spent with parents, siblings, spouse and children treasured the most. But come to think of the 'incidents' that we encountered at the Night Safari and Maxwell Hill, I was a bit bewildered. I read everywhere that Malaysia is one of the most sought after travel destinations... that Malaysia is full of warm ppl... they greet you with smile... they are kind people... Unfortunately some of them are not! Nicely written on articles but to some extend not in actual fact...

The relevant Ministry is putting their heads together to think tank into promoting the country.
Monies were spent and channeled to the relevant parties to increase the number of tourists' arrival.. and this is what they got in return! (Sighhhhh....)

Directions, forecast and targets ... 2010

Been very busy lately. Jiji is away for 2 weeks - on leadership training. I really hope she enjoyed her training... One thing for sure I know she would love the places .... Hong Kong, Acheh and Medan. As for me here, life is a bit hectic. Too many things to handle at one time. A bit tired though... last week I had to attend the Branch Managers Conference (BMC). My first experience ever since I joined the Bank. The opening remarks by the CEO was really inspiring. Obviously, directions, forecast and targets are set and further discussed among the managers.

Looks like the target is achievable .. (if you were to share the tasks between the ppl in HQ and the ppl from the network of branches throughout Malaysia). Image is one of the most stressed points during the conference. Yup... I guess that's the most crucial part. Our dept is liaising with the media on any letters, 'allegations' and complaints from the customers and the public at large.

CE3's presentation was the highlight during the opening.... With Ricky Martin's performance and Freedom's 'togetherness' song, everyone sang along....

That night, we had the usual badminton tournament between the managers from HQ and the branches. I was paired with MJ, my Boss. Our opponent was a actually a pair of ex-Bank players. Soooo, yaaa we lose our game. But it was a tough fight though in a very good team spirit. In the end, we (HQ) still won! SOme pics taken during the conference and tournament.

I'm looking forward for my block leave next week. The first few days, MIL, FIL and SIL will be spending time with us. And after that I plan to have a second round vacation with the family.... place? dunno yet...

The beginning of EVERYTHING

Last Tuesday we had an event - the signing of MOU between the bank and a system provider. The bank will have its own Internet Banking services soon. This is indeed an impressive milestone for the bank. Well maybe to some other commercial banks, this is 'peanuts'. But being a bank that carries the mandate of the government, it has a significant weight.

The systems will be put in place, the infra will be further developed and enhanced so as the tools... they will be upgraded in order to give the 'best' to the customers. Insyallah by first quarter of 2010 the service can be accessed.

Frankly, when I was interviewed by JKK Director in 2007 (before officially joining the bank), I did ask as to whether the bank will embark on its internet banking services. The answer that time was "not at the moment'. Reason being, the bank's composition of customers is unique. The school children conquers the major share while govt servants and pensioners comes second. There is a 'missing link' between the school children and the govt servant/ pensioners. Where have the young executives gone to? The bank's financial record for the past few years was not good. From what I understand the bank went thru its austerity drive period in order to put the Bank in a 'stable' situation. And of coz during this 'drive', the staff 'starved' for salary increment, perks and other benefits as well. But it was not too long after that, when the bank announced its profit after being in red book for quite some time. The salary was revised and perks as well as benefits were reviewed.

So I must say that the bank did well (it would be unjust to compare the bank with other commercial banks in terms of financial achievement). We are different... we have our mandated roles. We make sure our presence in remote areas ... where the aim is to provide banking accessibility for the community (even though it means that we might operate the branch at loss). Do other banks do that? Do other banks care for those people who live at the river banks like Song, Sarawak? I am proud to say that we do care!!!

We might be one of the banks that is last in the list to have our internet banking. But I believe it is a worth long wait.. We understand our customers' needs, build their confidence, capture their interests and now the 'missing link' is visible ... It has a clear line now and the 'long lost audience' is gradually growing ...

I hope the service will accelerate the bank's performance in terms of delivering its social mandate and of coz contributing to a significant growth in its financial book. Kudos to those who has involved himself/herself directly to the better performance of the bank. But perhaps a gentle reminder to all inviolved including myself.. This is not the end, but this is the beginning of everything! Looks like we have to work and strive harder.

As for me, like in other organizations that I've worked for, I'm giving my best and I do hope this would be my last station...

Is this the value of love?

Not sure whether you guys read HMetro - about a couple who had divorced and 'rujuk' again (if I'm not mistaken before the eddah completes). Unintentionally, they didn't inform the relevant authority that they have 'rujuk' and live together happily (got kids from the marriage) until couple of years back the wife passed away. The hubby however didn't aware that the wife had used the divorce certificate to re-marry again with another man...

When the 1st hubby found out that the 2nd hubby is now inheriting his wife's properties, he went to seek for legal recourse - applies to the court to 'legalise' his re-marriage with the wife. According to the daughter, one of the reasons why the father did the application to the court was due to 'harta'. The 1st hubby admitted that he is willing to put aside the 'shame' in order to get his re-marriage declared as valid and thus extend him the privilege to inherit the property as well.

My 2 cents worth - I think to some extend 'love' is used merely as a 'vehicle' to allow people to get what they want. Love to certain extend has no 'value' and is 'preached' towards 'materialism'.
Perhaps the 1st husband (in this case) is sincere. Maybe he just wanted to clarify things ... he is the legal husband....

But what is the position of the 2nd husband... by right the wife (while she was legally married to the 1st husband) is prohibited to marry someone else.

I am totally confused.... Is there something wrong with our legal system?
(Then I got to know that, now if you are divorced, the Jabatan Agama will not issue any divorce letter within 3 months. Upon completing the eddah then only the letter will be issued and therefore giving the couple the opportunity (especially the woman) to remarry ... this time registered as legal and valid).

A point to ponder huh? (How did the wife did that? (marry another man while still in a valid marriage).... Where is the love ?

I'm still in LOVE!

The bonds of matrimony are like any other bonds - they mature slowly.
I've known him for 13 solid years.
Still ... I think it is insufficient to understand the real him..
Both of us know that we have sacrificed a lot for each other.
Indeed those 'sacrifices' were not openly discussed .....
There were moments when we left each other alone...
There were times when we hold each other close ....
All for only one good reason ...
To ensure the institution that we build will stand still.
But what is the 'institution' without love, care and understanding...

To my beloved hubby "Our wedding was many years ago. The celebration continues to this day. Happy Anniversary.

Puan Hamidah

Mula2 bersekolah di sekolah 'omputeh' (Convent Sentul) saya a bit culture shock. Tapi lelama okay...

Kawan2 saya yang lain kata 'you're so lucky'.

Apa2 pun saya rasa Pn Hamidah was the best class teacher. Terima kasih Mak @ Pn Hamidah!

The fear inside me

I have been having quite a hard time to handle Amir while shopping. Tak kira la hyper market, kedai mamak ke, pasar ke, Seven Eleven ke... mana saje yang ada display toys... its a habit of him nowadays to get me to buy him the toys. Kalau tak beli mende2 ni dia akan buat mende2 ni pulak:

1. duduk depan toys yang dia dah berkenan - his favourite
2. Menangis sambil tarik baju mak dia - once his favourite tapi dah kena tegur ngan abah dia...
3. Berguling-guling sambil nangis - ada tendency tapi belum pernah buat lagi...

So every time kalau nak pegi beli barang, its a habit of mine and hubby pulak to always remind him not to buy any toys. But he is always encouraged to buy books. Usually coloring books are his favourite. Rasanya dah lebih dari 30 colouring books we bought for him. I noticed that he likes to mess around with colours... Sampai habis rumah atuk dia conteng. Last Raya hubby had to repaint the dining and guest areas of my parents house. Actually it was all started when I bought him a big art pad when he was nearly 2 years old. Since then he show interest in drawing and colouring. Colour pencils and crayons tu jangan cakap la...

Lately he has been familiarising himself with our laptops. Mine is his favourite since he can play many computer games. It surprised me one day when I noticed that he can 'on' my laptop and click to the games folder.. Kalau kat umah atok, he will aim on Kak long's PC.

Sometimes I feel that it was unfair for him a 3 year old boy to be deprived from playing with toys. But at the same time we do not want him to be too playful. I once thought to send him to school but was advised by my bro and SIL that it was too fast for him. Deep inside my heart I have this fear that my son could not perform in school, could not socialize and interact with other children ... and macam2 lagi. Is this common or I'm too perfectionist?

Painting, public speaking, the First Lady, eating sessions ... bla bla bla

Maybe age really is catching up with me.. Lately I feel so tired easily. Perhaps last week's schedule was a bit hectic. Nevertheless, the aerobics session was really good. It was then followed with all those preparation in getting the orphanages' paintings exhibited during the ESQ Event with Yayasan Harapan Kanak2 Malaysia. One thing about this ESQ event was that we had the First Lady i.e YAB Datin Paduka Sri Dr Rosmah Mansor to pen down her signature on the 'plaque' that we had at the exhibition area.

Simultaneously during ESQ Event, there was a public speaking competition - the PM's trophy. The participants were really good. I noticed that the Malay students' presentations were a bit 'over' ... perhaps the way they present their ideas... (Kama said 'terlampau banyak berlagu')...

I enjoyed one Indian boy (who was then announced as the winner - for non malay category). The second topic that braught him on stage was a bit 'touchy' to me. It was about 'The day that I like most. And for him the day that he likes most is Mother's Day. I believe his mum (who was sitting at the back) was damn proud with his son... :)

Overall the event was a memorable one! We had the opportunity to 'snatched' the First Lady from the public while she was heading towards the lift with her entourage and the photographers... and Jijie managed to get her to sign the plaque. The most happiest person would be Kama I guess as he was the closest (in the pix taken by En Raman) to the First Lady. A handful thanks to En Nazri the CEO of Yayasan who played the role to get the First Lady ushered to our exhibition area. Not forgotten to Ramona aka Romano (cenc called her by this name you know...)who has helped us to get the marker ribbonned.... :)

All in all, I enjoyed the eating session at the cafetaria the most... the food was good and the PRICE is CHEAP.... On that Friday, it costs me only RM8.00 for nasi+lala+kerang+sayur taugeh+air jagung (mine) and teh O (Kama) and nasi+ikankeli+sayur+teh O limau (En Raman)... Kalau kat KL ... ? Don't dream la kata omputeh ... jangan mimpi la ... kata orang melayu...

EGG Banking ?

Yes.. egg banking is available here in Malaysia! Just read in today's Sunday Times. Egg banks are available in 3 private hospitals in the Klang Valley. The report said that this procedure is merely recommended for women undergoing medical treatment. However in developed countries this is a growing trend for 30 something women to put off their motherhood till they find maybe a perfect husband or for career purposes - climbing the corporate ladder.

According to one consultant obstetrician gynae and fertility specialist, egg freezing offers a woman to preserve their fertility without the pressure of the bilogical clock. How does it work? Eggs can be collected without the woman undergoing ovarian stimulation. The procedure converts the eggs into 'glass' and upon thawing, the egss have a good chance of survival and can be used dor fertility treatment. Now it is even possible to collect immature eggs before freezing them - a procedure called in-vitro maturation (IVM).

This is merely applicable to those woman with medical reasons especially cancer. Most clinicians will not perform eggs freezing for 'social' reasons and is still in the stage of 'debatable'.

Comments from the religious leaders:

Sikh leader - Egg freezing should not be a desirable option.

Christian Federation - Technology is great if it helps the mankind but there must be laws governing such situation in case something goes wrong.

Mufti - In Islam sperm that is used within the marriage is alright. Some single women may claim that they want to freeze their eggs until they are married. But this technology may also allow them to use their eggs even if they never get married.

Hindu Sangam - Any research done for the good of mankind is acceptable. But when ppl misuse it, then we need to take precautionary measures.

Buddhist monk - Its good to enjoy life but if you wait too long to have children you may develop complications during pregnancy. I am also sure no child wants to go to their graduation ceremony with their 'grandparents'. :)

My bits - I think this procedure is merely meant for those women undergoing medical treatment. But this is very subjective. If eggs freezing is 'legally' and 'officially' allowed in Malaysia, those women should be warned on the the possible risks. So those women out there what say you?

CTM vs Footloose ... & We Will Rock You...

Dua kali pergi IB baru dapat beli tiket Cuci2 The Musical (CTM). The first time we went, the line was offline... The second time we went, the queue was long. I told Jiji "orang yang beratur depan kita ni macam Adibah Nor aje". Jiji gelak ... "Yelah tu"... Tak puas hati, saya ke depan sikit and glanced at that person. "Ye la Ji.. Adibah Nor"... :) Pelik gak naper dia beli tiket

CTM was the second Malay theatre that I watched. The first was "Si Tenggang" staged at DBKL Hall... maybe 10 -12 years back.... The heroin was Ramlah Ram... hehehe... Masa gi London, ada gak watched theatre - 1- Footloose and 2- We Will Rock You. Memang la gempak tengok yang kat London ni... and memang berbaloi. Tapi bila convert pounds to Malaysian Ringgit, memang beratus la duit abis... But it was the experience that counts right?

CTM was really good. Thumbs up and pat to the shoulders to all involved especially the main casts. I like the roles played by Awie and Adibah Nor. Tak sangka Awie boleh berlakon teater. Disebabkan we all duduk kat the second row, memang la teramat dekat dengan stage and can see very the clear one... Meremang bulu roma bila dengar suara Awie. Frankly memang puas hati... tak rugi spent the nite with my crazy colleagues like Jiji, Kama, Sally and hubby and En Raman. ... memang I poyo bak kata Kama... hahahaha...

CTM finished dalam kul 12.00 malam. Memang abis ajer terus blah... Disebabkan kepoyoan yang terlampau memang satu gambar pun takder..... Dalam kete hubby called " You tido kat IB ke malam ni"... jokingly... I drove home with a big smile.
Hope to do this more often....

Criminalise War

This is indeed the 'one of a kind' exhibition and conference that I've ever attended before.
The word 'war' carried the meanings of death, suffering, torture, loss ....

Held in PWTC, the reason why I would want to attend this conference on the first place is to listen to Tun Mahathir's keynote during the launching ceremony. Not more than that. Before the keynote was addressed, there was a 'play' staged by Iraqi kids whose parents have sought refuge in Malaysia. The 'play' was on - one sunny day they were playing with their friends when suddenly their homes were ambushed ...all of them except one small boy escaped uninjured.

(At this moment, dah tak tertahan air mata... I knew that the person who sat beside me was also crying...). It was a horrifying experience... tak boleh nak dibayangkan if this happen to us, our family.. especially our own kids...

Tun's speech was very inspiring.... I wonder who did the speech for him or maybe he did on his own.. Before we proceeded to lunch, we entered the exhibition hall that showcased the methods used to torture the prisoners in the famous Guantanamo and Abu Gharib detain prisons.

These are some pictures of the torture methods ....

Pics taken from http://mmail.com.my/content/17393-criminalise-war-8. More pics can be viewed at this url.

The following day I went again ... The topic discussed was interesting - War and the Mass Media. Among the 'supposed to be' panelists were YB Dato Seri Utama Rais Yatim, Mr Sami Al Hajj - a Sudanese journalist for Al Jazeera network. He was detained as 'enemy cobatant' at the Guantanamo Bay. Detained in 2001 and released in 2008. Mr Sami delivered his bits in Arabic and was perfectly and proficiently translated by a person named Mr Moazzam Begg. The Merdeka Hall was heated by questions from the audience. Towards the end I gotto know that Mr Begg was one of the detainees also held in Guantanamo Bay. He is one of nine British citizens imprisoned for a crime he didnt commit. He is now the Director of Cage Prisoners and currently work closely with leading human rights organizations.

To those who are strong ... come and see at your very own eyes the torture chamber .... The exhibition ends this Saturday, 31 Oct 2009. The initiatives of the Conference are:

- to stop the slaughter of innocents
- to stop profiteers earning blood money
- to stop the mass media from glorifying war
- to stop the manufacture of weapons.

"How can we claim to be civilised when we condone and legalise mass killings of men,
women and children, the old and the sick as a solution to conflicts between nations"
- Tun Mahathir -.

You Paint My Life

Nearly half of the day today was spent with the orphans from Yayasan Harapan Kanak2 and Home of Hope AlKhadeem. There were around 60 of them. Everyone is into 1Malaysia now... That's the beauty of multi racial society. We had them all under one roof today! I told my team, Kama and En Ramon, today is our CSR day. En Ramon could't hide his excitement... he was early today!

Anyways, do you paint or have you ever done any painting before? Nope, not me... but I've always wanted to have that kinda 'skill'. Not gifted and busy all the time... I never tried hard to discover as to whether I can really paint. Today, at our Training Centre, we had an Art Painting Competition. Its actually a project that we are currently working on - to choose 12 best paintings as part of our 2010 Calendar. Something different from previous years.

Frankly, I was actually stunned with the ability of the kids (mostly around 8 - 15 of age) to paint. They sketched their ideas, transfered onto the canvas and started the arcrylic painting. Looks easy ... Some of coz were lost since they couldn't imagine or relate themselves with B**. The resident artist, En Ali Akbar was very supportive and accommodative.

Finally, 2 hours after that, the kids completed their tasks. Boss and our team shortlisted around 24 paintings out of 60. Viewing the paintings, I could say that the kids have done well... the 'cute' factor is there when you deal with kids right?

These are some paintings and scenes captured during the competition. Bravo everyone! To Suki and the team, " We've made it ... and hopefully we can settle the rest within time".

Story of a belacan trader

It was reported in Metro today that a makcik from Dungun, Terengganu was sued and finally fined RM600 for 'selling' belacan yang kurang protein. The makcik, aged 56 admitted that she didn't aware of such a regulation - Menurut Peraturan 163 (2) (a) (ii) Peraturan Makanan 1985- belacan perlu mengandungi tidak kurang 25% protein.

My reaction? Kesian makcik tu. All this while she has been selling the same kind of belacan and getting the supply of belacan from the same supplier without knowing that there exist such a regulation/provision concerning protein in belacan!. It may sound funny but I really pittied her. I saw her in TV yesterday in court. She looked 'blank' and in the state of confused. It was reported that she has been selling belacan for 5 years and never encountered such an 'incident'.

"Meskipun akur dengan keputusan Mahkamah dan membayar denda, R****i akan terus menjual belacan berkenaan kerana menjadi sumber pendapatan keluarganya".

My question - no doubt this makcik has breached the regulation/provision but she is merely one of the many petty traders... to ensure they meet their ends. What about those big sharks who would have long list of committed offence but are still 'free' and live happily ever after...

Kesian makcik tu....

Syndrome Bisu

This syndrome is not new to us. Every now and then it happened ... sometimes at the office with our colleagues.. sometimes with our parents ... and maybe most of the times with our partners!

Frankly, whenever I'm in such a situation, I feel uneasy, awkward and uncomfortable... especially when you know that you are the so called 'victim' and not in fault. Usually I will try my best to start any conversation as long as the person in that syndrome will start communicating... if it happens to my other half... I will try to make him talk to me... and if it happens to my parents, usually I will treat them dinner... rasuah ...rasuah ....

To me its okay la kalau parents I yang in that 'mode'. Being warga tua.. I understand that they are 'prone' to be so sensitive ... and maybe bila kita dah di classified as 'warga tua' we'll act the same way... hehe (jangan marah ha mak and abah).

Lucky me as I'm surrounded with crazy lunatic colleagues who will make me laugh ... even though the syndrome is becoming 'regular' nowadays.... sighhhhhhhhhhhhh..............

Ini kereta penyelia Ariffin

Last week I spent a lot on parking fees. When Syawal is at the end of the corner, ramai yang buat open house. That was not inclusive of the TE to all those venues and eating places... but its considered as official ye... 'Socialising' is one of our tasks.

I still remember when I was still schooling (perhaps more than 20 years ago ... (how time flies!) my mum used to drive me to school - Convent Sentul. Kebetulan, my mum was also teaching in the same school. So every evening, it was a 'ritual' to first fetched my dad before drove back to Kajang. My dad was a former parking superintendent with the City Hall. Dulu mana ada the machines where we insert coins to pay the parking fees. So my dad had his own task force who did the rounds and write the parking tickets.

There were times when my parents left me in the car alone.... and usually the car was parked not within the 'designated parking area'. What my dad did was placed a note that read "Ini kereta penyelia Ariffin"... So whenever a parking attendant did his round, he would just stared at the 'notice' placed on the wind screen and left without leaving any ticket. No one dared to ask me who would most probably at that time tengah tido kat dalam kereta... hahahha. Serious, even the City Hall or police traffic tak saman or fine my dad's car...

But that was way back before..... Sekarang ni dah tak laku dah.... I wonder if my dad still remember this...

Gemok?

This morning, while having 'cekodok pisang' for breakfast, Kama came and told us that he wanted to control his diet. The weighing scale showed 'tuuut' kg when he weighed himself yesterday.

What a coincident! While driving to the office this morning HotFM discussed the same topic as TM commented on Malaysia's citizen ... mostly obese and facing heart problems! The Deejays also mentioned that TM is very concern on his diet and never weigh more than 60kg! Haiya! aku ni dah berlebih kg da ni!!!...

Well I think somehow rather its true. Maybe our life style and the food that we consume everyday has 'done' something to us... (try to blame the food plak!) Frankly, maybe we don't have that ample time to get our body and muscle exercised... Sampai umah pun (kalau balik sharp 5.30 pm) dah maghrib. Malam is the only time, I think we career mothers nak entertain the sons and the daughters as well as our other halves. Weekend plak, sometimes nak balik kampung to jenguk the inlaws (ini contoh menantu yang baik!). Kena la equal kan!

But, I admit whether or not we have ample time to exercise would depend on us. Currently I have just joined the aerobics classes. Baru satu kali join. The next day bila nak pergi, my son pulak demam... So there are some 'occassions' and 'incidents' that sometimes hinder us from doing exercises.... I have also stopped my zazen for a while.. Tak tau bila nak sambung balik.

At the office, I heard Kama and Mr Ramon are planning to jog every Friday evening. See la whether or not the plan will be materialised. Kama is still in denial stage... sampai sanggup consider the weighing scale rosak.... hahaha..

Buying another house?

Lately I have been contemplating whether or not to 'buy' another house...
Not that far though... next to the current house... hahah... Ed, my brother is planning to move out and sell his house. Yesterday Jue, my SIL was asking me 'jadi ke nak beli umah kitorang?'... I told her 'tanya Bos'... while looking at hubby.

When we first purchased the current house, we didnt know that our neighbour would be my own brother. Ed moved in 3 months earlier. Masa memula nak pindah, hubby dah buat renovation skit kat belakang. I got the kitchen that I wanted... even though ruang tak berapa luas. I told myself... bukannya selalu masak pun... Knowing my hubby yang cerewet dengan the finishing of the house, I gave a nod when he wanted to repaint the whole house. The porch was extended and tiles pun dia tukar. Lagipun... it was his money ... hahahaha...

I think the house is okay. Mula2 only two of us. Rasa macam besar sangat. Then when Amir came into our lives and of coz masa tu ada maid, rasa macam takder privacy. when the whole family come to our house, macam tak cukup ruang nak duduk.

Then suddenly Ed said he wanted to sell the house and build another house near to parent's house. I once told my brothers before that one of them kena la sacrifice buat umah kat umah our parents. Reason being, my parent's current house is 'nestled' kat atas bukit and a bit isolated. Only 3 of them ada kat umah. Bila malam memang la sunyi. So if one of them ada kat area tu, of coz my parents would be glad as someone is 'looking after' them.

We are still calculating, weighing the pro and cons... to purchase Ed's house. A lot of things to consider .... the monthly instalment (the most important thing !!), renovation (again!... I couldn't stand the dust, kelam kabut, etc...) Umah besar2... tapi tinggal 3 orang ajer...
Can't decide now... Kena tengok ramalan kaji cuaca dulu .... To me, if hubby say yes...then we will go ahead. After all I know that most of the pennies are from his own pocket!

Papadom!

Nope this is not about the movie Papadom la...

Many things happened last week. It started with B**'s Open House. Not that interesting and exciting compared to last year's. Was quite disappointed with the media. The registration sheet was full but during the PC, beberapa kerat ajer yang muncul. As usual Iw** from SH tried his level best to scout for some news. No wonder he is promoted as the Head!. But the most unpredictable thing happened! Mr R, our professional and dedicated photographer gagal untuk menyelamatkan momen2 yang dirakamkan pada hari itu. "Technical error" he said... without any reaction of regret. Yang pelik gambar 'Best 2' dapat diselamatkan! Had to contact some of the reporters for some pix for our record and Buletin this month... The following day, Mr R went on leave! Sungguh shahdu sekali!!!

Then I had to attend Puspanita MOF Open House the next morning. As usual, the poco2 team put Sue and me in hot soup. The BNM's ppl kept on asking ... since they did not reach MOF on time... Had to leave earlier since JKK was also organizing its Open House. Before I left, met Kak Rok... former PA to MK2, Dato Seri Husni....
Sampai kat kete... daripada jauh da nampak .... kena saman siut tol! Tak pasal2 ajer ....
Sampai JKK, colleagues sumer tengah makan. FOod memang banyak. Tak lalu rasanya nak makan ... Penat semalam tak hilang lagi...

After JKK's, had to leave for Yayasan Harapan Kanak2 Event. DOnated RM50K to the Yayasan. However, the coverage was not to our expectation. Met Datul Atikah Adom. I wonder if she is still in B**, macamana lah agaknya our dept and of coz Puspanita. Some ppl said 'mesti gempak'... Ehem... dapat pegang hand bag dia pun jadik la... kot-kot melekat plak !!!!

Then we had this NSTP's Open House. The arrangement and setting was cozy ... Yelah buat kat hotel .... Bilalah B** boleh buat Open House cam ni.... haha... That nite, Iread my mail. There was an email from CE4.... Very professionally written but can sense the ' warning'. Ok Noted!.

Again on Friday had to attend a meeting at MOF on the Deputy Finance Minister's visit to Kelantan. After the meeting, 3 of us (Boss, sally and myself) had a 'discussion'. A 'good' and 'fruitful' one!. Thanks to both of them. I haven't had such a discussion for more than 10 years!.

However, after the discussion, Boss got a message! About work... something didnt reach to the desks of CE1, CE2, CE3 that made CE4 in deep trouble. BOss had to 'mengadap' and came to my small desk with what I normally call 'muka ketat'. I didn't want to say anything actually... it is beyond my 'control and my supervision'. I know and am aware that sometimes, we have to do something that we do not like to do... but once it is classified as a 'responsibility' that's it... there's no turning back. You are obliged to do.

Yesterday , the whole family went to cousin's wedding reception. Lepas wedding recept, pergi open house... my next door neighbour invited us .. then at 5pm went to another neighbour's (opposite our house) open house. Last sekali went to another open house ...neighbour jugak. Looks like yeaterday was an interactive / community day for hubby and myself. Once a year this is the only time we, neighbours met, had a chit chat and know each other better.

Pheww... what a week! But I like Papadom the most !!! hahahah... Poyo!

Is it too much to ask?

I was surprised when I was told that CE3 wanted to donate RM50K to YHKM. Yeah I know it is not my money but I think YHKM is a reputable NGO... under the patronage of the First Lady... Told Boss that I would prefer if that kind of money is to be given to other NGOs and associations.. I believe these NGOs and associations need more than YHKM...

Hearsay - when we 'donate' RM50K, CE1 will be on stage together with the First Lady... a significant mileage ... I told myself..

Actual Day - The First Lady was in hurry to join her beloved hubby ... extending moral support during the U**O assembly. So, there goes the mileage... Only one session of Photo Op.. together with the kids and other sponsors. Gotto know that B*TA sponsored 250 pairs of shoes, another company sponsored 1000 units of stationaries.. they got to be on stage too... hmmhhh the mileage was the same..

We were hoping that the media would do something the next day... However, none of the media reports on the 'event'... What a waste...

Its true that to certain extend, publicity is not the 'main thing' but after spending that kind of money, we would like to 'see' the 'outcome' ...

Is it too much to ask?

Back to life, back to reality

Just imagine, after more than a week of long Raya holiday... 'bercintanye' nak drive thru the traffic jam again and go to the office... But what to do.. back to life! Back to reality!

This year Raya was quite 'happening' though.. Hubby kemaruk giler main m****n. Thunder cat, thunder clap. Beijing 2008, cake, rocket ... macam-macam ada. Parent's house jadi 'official venue' for all the 'key players' to concregate and have fun. Yang paling happy of coz the kids especially Amir.

Didnt expect that I would be as 'kemaruk' as hubby... :) Maklumla mende2 ni masa bebudak dulu jarang jumpa. 3 days in a row before raya.. sampai la ke hari ni... tak abis-abis lagi... Balik Rembau pun siap compete ngan adjacent neighbour. FIL bising gak ngan hubby... tapi the other siblings and in laws semuanya satu kepala. So FIL terpaksa akur dan mengalah... hahahaha...

Last weekend went to Nasha's house and En Ramon's as well. Ntah naper this year hubby rajin nak berjalan. Maybe sebab Amir pun dah besar. Amir pun dapat duit raya ... equal to the investment that we've made... hahahaha...

Rumah Nasha - makan nasi lauk2 pun sedap. Pastu makan desert. More than 2 hrs lepak kat umah Nasha. Sunday went to En Ramon's. Kak Su buat laksa utara... Kalau tak disebabkan perut yang dah kenyang... mau tambah lagi tu...

So pagi ni dah start work as usual. Quite busy with the preparation for Open House B** on the 12 Oct 2009. With more than 5K invitees every year... you can imagine the 'lenguh and letih berjalan' .... but if you put aside the tiresome.. memang la seronok especially towards the end... dapat tapau balik Al Malik's food. Hmmhh this year Al Malik is said to be the main caterer again for the VVIP.

Whatever it is... today is a bit slow.. Maybe esok mood kerja bertambah baik..
To all my colleagues yang dah start keje, welcome back ... dengan pesanan Audit is coming!!!!
Pada Sally and Kama .. yang still bercuti, we do not know how come we approved your long raya holiday... dengan ucapan ... cukup - cukup la tu.... kat ofc ni CSR menanti, CI menunggu.... :)

My special moments

These were some old pictures that I managed to digitize for the eyes of my grandchildren..

I was born in KL.. whereabout? According to my father, the existing PWTC was known to be the Camp of Senoi Praaq. My father was the camp commandant. Believe it or not my 'uri' was burried under the building .... in the heart of PWTC.... I wonder if I can claim this from UMNO....

The first colored photo masa tu... From left Azmin (my late brother, Busu Nana, myself and Azwa).

Some of these pics were taken at my late grandma's house at Sg Tua. My grandma passed away 4 years back. So now the house jarang dijenguk as she has inherited the house to her adopted son and not to my father , his legitimate biological only son... sob sob sob

These pics were taken when I was at International Islamic University, PJ.
I was quite active... Played basket ball, canoeing with Zulai ( recently I was in contact with Zulai ... Thanks to FB! after more than 10 years lose contact)

When we left IIU, our first gang trip was to Langkawi. Went for island hopping but were 'stopped' by the Marine kat tengah laut ... sebab naik boat tak pakai life jacket. Knowing that all of us were lawyers, the officer then released us with a very good advice... :)

My leg was once fractured... Ni dia gambar nya! I actually felt down from the stair case but until now my mum thought the accident was from playing badminton! Best dapat duduk rumah sebulan...

N
i masa joined Komando team... masuk utan.. What an experience!

I had double graduation: First when I finished my LLB (Hons) in 1990.
The second graduation was when I was called to the Bar as an advocate and solicitor a.k.a lawyer. My biography was read in the court. I saw my parents wept... huhuuuu sedih plak rasanya.

After 'called to the Bar', I practised as a lawyer for about 8 years...

Ni masa my big day...
Orang kata I macam Sharifah Aini. Have a look... Amacam? Ada tak cam Kak Pah... hahahah...

I am still here... going strong...
I felt that some how or rather the difficulties and challenges that I faced from time to time have defeated some weakness in me and developed my strength...

After all that's what life is all about!
